Maxi Love

In keeping with the summery trend theme today I'd like to talk maxi. Now, I am a curvy petite, so some people may not believe that a maxi skirt or dress would be good for a gal with my shape and stature. However, I just cannot get enough of them!   

Maxi's epitomize effortless comfort for the spring, summer and fall. You can buy one in the beginning of the season and still be able to wear it well into the next season. With different jewels and shoes, the possibilities are endless!

Currently I'm on the hunt for a loose and flow-y black skirt, which you think would be easy to find right? Nope! The hunt continues...

Aaaaand this is my new skirt. I bought it and tried it on at home....I'm not completely sold. I'm in need of a black skirt but this is not what I had in mind. Is it too "young"? Or is it because my legs are showing and I don't believe that's what a maxi skirt is for?

I'm thinking more flow and less lace. 

But its lace and its feminine. 

I'm torn help me out!

It has been sunny and dry around these parts and just a little bit on the chilly side. I'm in the middle of "No Money May" (a phrase coined by a friend of mine). Now it has a completely different meaning for her than it does for me, as I'm adjusting to a new pay schedule and working hard at some debt reduction, meaning I have zero denero.

So I've been falling back on some of my favorite comfy classics like these vintage-y T's and skinny jeans older than my dog. 

I love wearing heels, but comfy flats like these Aerosoles, are made of the stuff my feet thank me for. And they're perfect for running around town.

I'm obsessed with this jacket that I picked up on clearance at Tar-jay and I am wearing it with everything!

Leopard accessories are something no girl should live without. Just see my collection. Even my watch has a leopard face so in an effort to print mix I threw in some stripes down low. 

I'm still a little shy about print mixing...I've read to try it in small doses and yet I'm still afraid to step out of the house! Maybe I just don't have the right pieces...any thoughts?

Spring in my Step...

I tried my hand at outdoor pics this week. Who doesn't love a little fresh air style?

I've been feeling very casual lately. ...like so casual I don't mind that I'm wearing scrubs...even when I'm not at work. {lazybum}

Anyway..I'm trying to capitalize on the nice weather when I can. I just LOVE when SJL grills...nothing is better than grilled chicken & veggies with cold 'beahs'. Seems like every day off I have involves "April showers".  So I decided to put a little spring in my step today with my fave warm weather wedges and pants...for a trip to the grocery store. SJL thought I was nuts putting in so much effort to go grocery shopping at a place where PJs and rollers are the norm. Think... peopleofwalmart.com

I was definitely out of place, but I didn't care cause I felt good. And I wanted to dress up...like I said...I've been feeling too casual lately.

Tiki Tiki tangerine

Ever since I received the Sally Hansen at home Gel kit for my birthday- I've been in love. 

I want every gel color in every brand and I want to paint my nails all the time. 

Unfortunately, the mains last up to two weeks so I don't switch them up that often. I feel guilty getting rid of a perfectly good color. Plus, thanks to Pinterest, I've taught myself how to gradient with glitter from the bottom up and it makes my main last even longer. I am a one woman mani machine!

Mostly, I have Sally Hansen brand gels, but after a trip to Sally's with my mom, I discovered this gem:

Tiki Tiki Tangerine

As you can see it's grown out a bit at the bottom, however, the tips and the cuticles are still very clean. Therefore, when I get wrapped up with life, and I can't bring myself to take off the polish, the trendy gradient is perfect!

The only downside of this polish is the taking off part. You have to wrap your fingers in foil with nail polish remover soaked cotton squares. And wait. And wait. And wait until it starts to melt. The purpose is to melt or loosen up the polish enough so that is just rubs off rather than peel, which will strip your natural nail. 

However...

...Since I am not the queen of patience, and I am the reigning queen of procrastination, I often peel off my polish after on nail chips. I cannot have mismatched nails. It bothers me, incredibly. 

Nowadays, you will not see me without decorated tips! I'm still a little nervous to try my  hand at nail art unless its the genius little strips I love so much! 

But, I just know there will come a day I will find it in me to step outside my comfort zone. 

Until then, I highly recommend trying out at home gel manis!

Sally's has a huge range of colors from the gelish line and as a bonus- the trendier colors come in mini jars (as seen on the tiki tiki) so that you aren't spending a fortune on a color that will only be seen for a few months.

Colorful Tweed

This skirt.

Thiiiis skirt.

Thats why the hardest thing I had to do was return it. 

Yup, returned again. I keep striking out!!

I think this is a fantastic look for the office. Or a job interview (keeping this one in my back pocket, just in case). Its just not practical for me. I'll wear it once, maybe twice before summer and thats it. 

AND

The shirt- despite its size (xxl) - clearly did not fit and had this funky ruched tail in the back. I had to wear a tank underneath for the pictures, there was just no getting it together. The colors and print matched so well with the skirt, I had to at least try. I also paired it with a chambray and loved it. Plus, it gave me the chance to wear these shoes I had forgotten put aside in my closet for a (long) while. 

I've seen a couple other bloggers with similar outfits and knew I had to try.

Well, as much as it hurt me, I had to return the outfit. 

Trust me, I debated the whole ride to the store. Ask my sister. She was tired of listening. 

So I returned it for a more practical "Meg-friendly" outfit...or two. =)

How to Wear Spring Now!

I fell for this shirt the moment I saw it. I tried on the tangerine version but ultimately chose the magenta. I'm so ready to wear this in the spring and summer. Its lightweight and comfy. 

For now, I'd pair this dress with my favorite wedge boots and some thicker black tights. 

And a glass of wine.

I'm obsessed with peplum tops because they flatter a fuller figure like my own. I like that they are fitted on top and flare at just the right spot to cover my more...ahem... rounder troublesome areas. It makes the perfect curve when worn with skinny jeans or a pencil skirt. 

The other obsession I have with this OOTD is that necklace!!

Out of the park! It was so unique that I knew I had to have it when I laid eyes on it. I have been dying to find a top that needed a little jazzing and thought these items went very well together. 

 I received so many compliments I can't wait to wear it again & again!

Feeling Spring-y

My sister recently hosted a Mary Kay pampering party at her new home as she is thinking of becoming a consultant (yay for me!!). It was a very cold and rainy day and I new there would be pampering so I didn't want to get too dressed up and I didn't even bother with makeup. 

I was inspired by this outfit I saw on Kendi Everyday. I love her blog and the layout and she has the cutest shop Bloom. She always looks so chic.

What I Want for March

I've been contemplating getting a cargo something for a while, that blazer is the perfect mix or spring colors and I'm in need of a neon yellow clutch. That necklace is perfect and I can never say no to floral pumps. Aaaand skulls may be a secret obsession. Its my inner badass coming out to play I suppose. Here's hoping I can find everything at a discount! 

What is it that you want for the start of spring? And how excited are you?? I can't wait for all this snow to melt!

LPD

The Little pink dress! The only thing better than a LBD is a LPD because...well its pink. Any shade of pink counts but I'm really digging hot pink (and that tangerine color below). And who doesn't love sequins?!

The LPD can be worn casually on the weekends with this shoe or to go out dancing with your girlfriends (Hell-OH sequins!). You can have just one and dress it up or down like the shirt-dress (again I'm coming back to this one) with just the change of shoes. Booties and tights can make it appropriate for now and the color alone is perfect for spring and summer!

I don't own very many but dresses are so versatile and truly fem- I'm trying to add more to my wardrobe this year.

Red Hot

I've mentioned before how reading this blog post on LaurenConrad.com has inspired me to purchase a red blazer as a spring transitional piece. I have a lot of the basics- the polka dot and striped tops, leopard pieces and standout black blouses. I could work wonders with this piece!

I ended up finding a similar blazer at Target recently as the LC jacket was sold out at Kohls. I can't begin to tell you how excited I was. The color and fit is perfect to me. 

Then when I got home and started reading 'the bible' -AKA the InStyle March issue- I saw this article on red. I knew then it was a great addition to my closet.
